ABOUT THE ARTIST
Featuring Artists: Kyle Allon Bond, Pam Wishbow, and Victor Melendez
Kyle Allon Bond
Kyle Allon Bond, 34, was born and raised in West Texas and relocated to Walla Walla in 2012. His artistic journey began in the metal and hardcore scene, performing in several bands and specializing in graphic design. In 2019, Bond opened Chrysalis Studios, a venue for hosting shows and a collective workspace for fellow artists.
“My work, created with urgency, embodies a state of panic and fluctuates between mania and avolition. It reflects personal calamity and existentialism, exploring societal boundaries and restrictions, and often leaves a sense of discomfort that mirrors human complexity. The raw emotions of loss and time are central to my art. I invite viewers to confront their own tribulations and start conversations about our shared human struggles, recognizing that these experiences need not be hidden.”
Pam Wishbow
Pam Wishbow is a Seattle-based illustrator known for her distinctive style that blends mid-century aesthetics with contemporary themes. Her work often incorporates elements of printmaking, including linocut and metal etching, which contribute to the unique texture and depth of her illustrations. Wishbow's creative process is heavily influenced by historical rituals, superstitions, and the magical artifacts she creates, such as charms and card decks.
Wishbow attended the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) for illustration. She enjoys setting moods in her work using a limited color palette and layering techniques. Her art is characterized by chunky, exaggerated shapes and a tactile quality that comes from her physical approach to materials like linoleum and copper.
Victor Melendez
Victor Melendez is a Seattle-based art director, graphic designer, and illustrator originally from Mexico City. His work is characterized by bold lines, vivid colors, and organic forms. It often features mysterious and spellbinding characters that reflect his multicultural upbringing.
After studying electrical engineering for two years, Melendez shifted his focus to graphic design and earned a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. His artistic practice includes a variety of techniques, such as printmaking, silkscreening, engraving, and mural painting. Melendez's notable projects include murals in Seattle, artwork for Starbucks' Anniversary Blend, and a set of piñata-themed stamps for the USPS. He also enjoys engaging in workshops and speaking at design conferences, sharing his expertise and passion for the creative process.
About Blood of Gods
Blood of Gods is a semiannual wine magazine founded by Stacy Buchanan. It uniquely combines the worlds of heavy metal music and wine. Buchanan, inspired by his background in the music industry and his love for heavy metal, created the magazine to bridge the gap between these two seemingly disparate cultures.
The magazine aims to demystify wine, breaking down the stereotypes of it being an elitist or highfalutin luxury beverage, much like heavy metal has often been misunderstood. Buchanan's approach highlights the commonalities between passion and craftsmanship in both wine and metal. This includes featuring vineyard collaborations with metal musicians and showcasing the dedication and hard work that goes into both wine production and music creation. The magazine's artistic direction is diverse and imaginative, involving various contributors from different creative backgrounds, ensuring that each issue offers a fresh perspective on the intersection of wine and heavy metal.
